It is important that eating, interacting with foods and mealtimes are a positive experience for children. Creating a positive, fun, and safe environment for children to explore new foods and textures is key in helping your child have a healthy and positive relationship with food.
Often times, children that are considered picky eaters, problem eaters, or children that present with challenging behaviors at mealtimes associate mealtime and food with negative emotions. Mealtimes can be stressful and frustrating for busy parents and tired children. It is not uncommon for crying, yelling, arguing, fighting, and refusal to be a common occurrence at the dinner table.
In order to improve behaviors at mealtime, expand your child’s diet, or get your picky eater to try new foods…YOU MUST MAKE MEALTIME AND INTERACTING WITH FOOD A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE! This can be difficult to change and it will take time to get your child to “buy into” this new mindset and tone you are trying to set.
